Clipdrop is the utility drawer of this category. Not a creative tool with a canvas and a learning curve — a page per job, where you drop an image in and get it back fixed. Built at Stability AI and now run by Jasper, it has stayed exactly as plain as it needs to be.

Free use is a daily allowance per tool — roughly twenty runs each — at web resolution. Paid raises the ceilings and unlocks high-resolution output. For occasional work you will never reach the limit.
The three that solve real problems
Cleanup on screenshots. A stray tooltip, a colleague’s name in a sidebar, a notification that shouldn’t be in the documentation — brush it out, keep the background. Faster than reproducing the screenshot, and it beats a black rectangle in a blog post.
Remove Background for anything that needs to sit on a page. Team photos, product shots, an icon someone only has as a JPEG. Zoom in on hair and glasses before you ship it; that’s where cut-outs give themselves away.
Relight when the photo is fine but the lighting isn’t. The usual save for a product shot taken on a desk under an office ceiling.
Where the seams show
- Cleanup guesses. Over a busy or structured background — brickwork, text, a repeating pattern — it invents something that doesn’t line up. Work in small strokes and undo early rather than brushing over the whole region at once.
- Uncrop is invention, not recovery. It’s making up the rest of the room. Fine for a background; not fine when the extended area implies something factual.
- Free output is web resolution. Check the pixel dimensions before sending a file to print.
One thing to be careful about
Removing a watermark, a credit line, or a photographer’s signature is exactly the kind of job Text Remover does well — and doing it doesn’t give you the right to use the image. Same for cleaning something out of a photo that’s presented as a record. The tool doesn’t know the difference; you do.
